How to Find Meaning in Uncertain Times

For many of us, life is more uncertain than ever before. Although some normalcy is returning to the pandemic life, there is a long-term economic recession, safety concerns about returning to work, and civil unrest that ripples through society. Even in the best of times, it can be hard to make time to focus on the higher purpose of our daily work and family life. Now is a time to take stock in all the good in our lives and find meaning that allows us to feel more stable in these uncertain times.

Practice gratitude

The first step to bringing meaning back into your life is to identify the parts of your life that are already meaningful. Spend some time each day thinking about what you’re grateful for, even if it’s as simple as having a roof over your head and fresh water to drink. Every day, write down two or three things to refocus on what is good in your life.

Identify what makes you come alive

Once you begin to consider your gratitude, you can begin asking yourself what you really want out of life. Ask yourself what makes your heart comes alive – the world needs passionate people, always. Your gratitude list might give you some clues as to which direction you should take. If you are most grateful for spending time with friends, you will have a better idea of how you want to support your loved ones and spend more of your time with them in the future.

Use this time to reset

It may feel as if there is a great imbalance in the world right now. This is a great time to start the process of reintegration. Life is short; this is a good time to reset.
